Ghent is a peaceful town where independence and community coexist. Founded in 1818 from parts of Chatham, Claverack and Kinderhook, it was named for the peace treaty that brought the War of 1812 to a close, re-establishing U.S. independence from Great Britain.
Ghent is tucked away in the beautiful Hudson Valley of Upstate New York, centrally located in Columbia County and northeast of the city of Hudson. It has a total area of 45.4 square miles and a population of 5,402 at the 2010 census. Ghent’s zip code is 12075.

Town of Ghent Town Board will hold a meeting on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:00 pm via Zoom. There will also be a public hearing before the Ghent Town Board via Zoom on February 18, 2021 at 6:45 p.m. for the purpose of considering Local Law No. 1 of 2021, which would amend the Code of the Town of Ghent.
