Welcome to the Town of Ghent
Ghent is a peaceful town where independence and community coexist. Founded in 1818 from parts of Chatham, Claverack and Kinderhook, it was named for the peace treaty that brought the War of 1812 to a close, re-establishing U.S. independence from Great Britain.
Ghent is tucked away in the beautiful Hudson Valley of Upstate New York, centrally located in Columbia County and northeast of the city of Hudson. It has a total area of 45.4 square miles and a population of 5,402 at the 2010 census. Ghent’s zip code is 12075.

Mother’s Day Marketplace to be held May 4
The second annual Mother’s Day Marketplace Vendor and Craft Fair will be held Saturday, May 4 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Ghent VFW.

Ghent Summer Camp to run Monday-Friday, 8:30am-2:30pm, July 1-August 2
Camp is offered at the Water Street Playground location ONLY. For children whose primary residence is in the Town of Ghent, one child is $50 and a family is $100.00. The nonresident fee is $175.00 per child. Children must have completed 1 year of kindergarten or be at least six years of age to attend.

Planning Board Public Hearing to be held May 1
The meeting, which will begin at 7:00 p.m., is for the purpose of considering an application for site plan review applicable to the lands of Ghent 66 LLC, 2331 State Route 66, Ghent, New York (Tax Map No. 75.4-3-15).

Ghent begins Comprehensive Plan Review
In the fall of 2023, the Ghent Town Board began planning for a review and update of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. The comprehensive plan establishes, among other things, the official land use policy of a community and presents goals and a vision for the future that guides official decision-making.

Town Board Workshop Meeting to be held April 18
The meeting, which will begin at 6:00 p.m., will be used to facilitate a meeting between the Comprehensive Plan Review Committee (CPRC) and various Town representatives.

The meeting, which will begin at 7:00 p.m., is for the purpose of considering an area variance applicable to the lands of Christopher Snyder, 63 Soller Heights Road, Ghent, New York (Tax Map No. 92.-2-33).
