Ghent Band Celebrates its 124th Year with its 2023 Concert Series

The band welcomes back conductor, Ghent native and Taconic Hills High School music teacher T.J. Russell. “It is truly an honor to be leading the Ghent Band. I’ve grown up with the group and I feel like the band is my family,” Russell said. “It’s a privilege to take my place in a long line of Ghent Band conductors and to be a part of the band’s rich history.” A number of Russell’s former and current students comprise the concert band.

All concerts are free of charge and provide a chance to unplug and unwind the same way people did a century ago. “One of the few changes to the band is our size. We often bring forty musicians, the most in our history,” noted Band Historian Gregg Berninger. “Listening to the Ghent Band is like traveling through time, relaxing just like folks have since 1899.” Concert goers can expect a little something for everyone—a mix of marches, show tunes, waltzes, and even light classical.
