The Town of Ghent issues a reminder to owners/residents of properties with sidewalks, that it is their responsibility to keep the sidewalks clear of ice, snow and debris, throughout the winter season. Uncleared sidewalks along Rte 66 in the hamlet pose a particular risk to pedestrians who walk in the roadway around unpassable areas of sidewalk. Planning ahead helps – if you are unable to clear snow, please make arrangements with family, friends, neighbors or a contractor, for help. Our residents in general, and folks along that stretch of 66 in particular, have a wonderful history of neighbors helping neighbors.
With the last storm’s snow accumulation being the most we’ve seen in years, some of the sidewalks remained uncleared -even several days after the storm subsided. In response to the risks to our pedestrians, and in anticipation of more snow forecasted, our Highway Department stepped in and cleared the sidewalks. The Town Board wishes to thank the Highway Department for making our walkways safe. Winter weather places a huge demand on our Highway folks, so we thank them for taking time away from those duties to handle this.
