The Town of Ghent is proud to announce that it has officially achieved Silver Certification through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Climate Smart Communities (CSC) program!
Announced by the NYS DEC during Climate Week, Silver status is the highest certification level awarded by the state. This milestone recognizes Ghent’s ongoing commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, advancing energy efficiency, and building resilience against extreme weather events.
A Major Milestone for Ghent
- Statewide Leadership: Ghent is now one of just 30 Silver-certified communities in all of New York State.
- Columbia County Pride: We proudly join neighboring Austerlitz, Canaan, and New Lebanon as one of only four Silver-certified towns in Columbia County.
- Local Impact: The certification reflects years of dedicated effort to complete greenhouse gas assessments, implement sustainability actions, and safeguard our local infrastructure and natural resources.
Congratulations & Thank You!
This achievement is a direct result of the hard work, passion, and vision of the Ghent Climate Smart Community Task Force, along with our Town Board, local volunteers, and engaged residents. Thank you to everyone who contributed time and energy to helping Ghent lead the way toward a cleaner, more resilient future!
