Welcome to the Town of Ghent
Ghent is a peaceful town where independence and community coexist. Founded in 1818 from parts of Chatham, Claverack and Kinderhook, it was named for the peace treaty that brought the War of 1812 to a close, re-establishing U.S. independence from Great Britain.
Ghent is tucked away in the beautiful Hudson Valley of Upstate New York, centrally located in Columbia County and northeast of the city of Hudson. It has a total area of 45.4 square miles and a population of 5,303 as of the 2020 census. Ghent’s zip code is 12075.

Town of Ghent Planning Board will hold a public hearing on two applications on Wednesday, March 4th, beginning at 7:00 o’clock at the Ghent Town Hall.
