
Welcome to the Town of Ghent
Ghent is a peaceful town where independence and community coexist. Founded in 1818 from parts of Chatham, Claverack and Kinderhook, it was named for the peace treaty that brought the War of 1812 to a close, re-establishing U.S. independence from Great Britain.
Ghent is tucked away in the beautiful Hudson Valley of Upstate New York, centrally located in Columbia County and northeast of the city of Hudson. It has a total area of 45.4 square miles and a population of 5,402 at the 2010 census. Ghent’s zip code is 12075.

Ghent Town Board will hold its 2023 Organizational Meeting
The meeting will be held on January 5, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ghent Town Hall, Route 66, Ghent, New York.

Three Town Board Public Hearings re: Fire Protection Services
There will be three successive public hearings before the Ghent Town Board for the purpose of considering Resolutions authorizing the Town of Ghent to enter into contracts for fire protection services with the Ghent Volunteer Fire Company.

New Site for November 17 Town Board Workshop and Meeting
The meetings will no longer be held at the Ghent VFW and will instead be held at the Ghent Town Hall, 2306 Route 66.
